Aktion Club of Highlands County worked all dayThursday, March 10, in the Community Garden at the Avon Park Housing Authority.
There were 14 club members who pulled weeds, tilled soil and cleaned up the garden area from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They worked in two shifts and enjoyed a picnic lunch in a pavilion near the garden.

“I am proud of all the work that was done by everyone,” said Aktion Club Treasurer Robert Lengyel.
Toni Salvaggio at the Housing Authority welcomed everyone and gave instructions. Four residents from the surrounding area and two Housing Authority interns from Ireland joined efforts to help the club. Most of the work was done by the Aktion Club. They made a lot of friends with the residents in that area. It was great to see a 7 year old boy come out to help.

The containers were organized and set up for the next phase which will be planting seeds this week. The club will make this an ongoing project to help their community. Club members will also be eligible to harvest some of the produce as part of their work.
Way to go Aktion Club!
